Chemistry Advanced Standing Exam (CASE)

Guidelines

All CASE Exams are administered in person. Students must show credit for CHEM 2070-71/2090-91 before taking the exam for CHEM 2080-81. Students are allowed one completion for each exam, pass or fail.

Bring pencils/pens and a non-programmable scientific calculator to the exam (examples include Texas Instruments (TI-30 series, TI-36X Pro) and Casio (fx-82MS, fx-991CW, fx-115ES)).

Prior registration is NOT required. Arrive at least ten minutes early on the date of the exam a and the test facilitator will provide further instruction.

The department does not offer study guide(s) or advice on preparing for CASE exams.

Students are welcome to review course syllabi for information.

Four credits of advanced standing in chemistry generally correspond to successful completion of either CHEM 2070–2071 or CHEM 2090–2091. Students who require only one semester of chemistry have therefore satisfied the requirement. Students who require a full year of chemistry may either (a) retain the four advanced standing credits and enroll in CHEM 2150 in the fall, or (b) bypass CHEM 2070–2071/2090–2091 and proceed directly to CHEM 2080–2081 in the spring.

Eight credits of advanced standing in chemistry generally corresponds to the successful completion of CHEM 2070-71/2090-91 and 2080-81, allowing students to move on to organic chemistry (3570+3580 or 3590+3600).
