Alumna Stacey Lowery Bretz Ph.D. is the 2020 recipient of the ACS Award for Achievement in Research on Teaching and Learning of Chemistry. Stacey was an undergraduate researcher in the Abruña lab, earned her B.A. in Chemistry in 1989, and earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry Education Research with Joe Novak in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1994. She is currently a University Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. There she develops assessment tools to measure student reasoning with multiple representations as well as measure meaningful learning in the laboratory. Stacey is a Fellow of both the ACS and AAAS.
