We caught up with recent Cornell Chem graduate Christopher Diaz (Class of 2020) to find out what they're up to now, and to ask their advice on a few important topics.
Tell us a bit about what you’re doing right now:
Since graduating, I have been working for various marketing agencies and am now a Director of Analytics for Havas Media in Boston, Massachusetts.
Considering where you're at in your professional journey, what are some goals you have for your future?
I aim to continue growing in the space and will be aspiring for the VP role at my current employer in the coming years.
Can you share a little about how Chemistry at Cornell impacted or inspired your career path?
Cornell Chemistry teaches students how to think critically, problem-solve, and find efficient solutions. Professors like Stephen Lee, and the late Thomas Rutledge, instill a strong sense of fortitude, perseverance, and critical/efficient thinking in their teachings. This program equips students with the tools to be the best in whatever field they choose, and we are able to stand out in any environment because of the foundation received here.
What advice would you give an undergraduate who just joined the Chemistry major at Cornell?
Do your best and continue to push forward. This program will turn you into something unstoppable in whatever you choose to do. Whether directly through their lectures or the life lessons they pass on along the way, the knowledge and experience gained from Cornell's elite instructors will stick with you long after you leave campus.
Do you have any advice for CHEM majors who will be applying to graduate school this year?
Apply to a variety of programs that speak to your interests and goals. There will be applicants from different schools and different states, but you’ll stand out because of your Cornell degree and education.
