Alumnus Song Jin named the Francis J. DiSalvo Professor of Physical Sciences

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology is pleased to announce that a department alumnus, Song Jin (Ph.D. 2002), was recently named the Francis J. DiSalvo Professor of Physical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jin was awarded a WARF Named Professorship for his major contributions to the advancement of knowledge through research, teaching, and service activities; the award comes with $100,000 and the opportunity to select a name associated with the awardee’s professorship. Jin chose to name his professorship after his Cornell faculty mentor, Francis J. DiSalvo (John A. Newman Professor, Emeritus).

DiSalvo joined the Cornell C&CB faculty in 1986 and made momentous contributions to the department, the university, and his field including over 500 research papers, 20,000 citations, advancements in chemical compound synthesis and fuel cell development, and invaluable leadership at the David R. Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future. Among DiSalvo’s myriad accomplishments, he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences and thoughtfully mentored hundreds of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and undergraduates, including Jin.
